Digital Building Logbook

The wealth of information available in the building and construction sector has so far been poorly digitised and fragmented across the industry.
The EU wants to provide a digital building logbook, a common data repository for all this information on a transnational level. In future, it will serve as a common repository for all relevant data throughout the entire life cycle of a building.
The digital building logbook is a first step towards life cycle-based construction and renovation. It facilitates the reuse of building components and the dismantling of building materials and supports the utilisation of building stocks as ‘material banks’.

Objectives:

Facilitating the exchange of information Promoting circular construction

Data is collected in three phases:

Design, planning and construction phase: Collecting information about the characteristics of the building (basic information, building materials used, planned energy efficiency class) and the permanent and unique integration of the data into the building logbook.
Sales, operation and management phase: Continuous collection of data on energy efficiency, ownership and modernisation requirements.
Conversion or demolition phase: The data collected is used to obtain a quick overview of the materials used and the potential for conversion or recycling.
